There's some wonderful scenes about the sensory experience of being a werewolf, and wonderful descriptions about the thrill of the chase. His life takes a strange turn when the star characters of his boyhood angst reach out to him. For those who are choosier, this may not satisfy.īarking is a story about a perpetually down on his luck assistant solicitor at the bottom of the pecking order in any relationship he's ever had, whether professional, platonic, romantic or otherwise. For someone who devours anything remotely supernatural, you'll like Barking. His protagonists are usually not very likeable losers who just about become somewhat heroic in the end making it a bit of slog to get through. I still find his stories amusing and the supernatural element means the furniture of his stories are engaging, but the stories themselves are not that satisfying. Aaargh! Duncan's boss doesn't think that he's cut out to be a lawyer. Of course, some monsters are scarier than others: Unicorns? No bother. 'Tom Holt may be the most imaginative satirist to land on our shores since Douglas Adams' - Christopher Moore 'Holt has a zany humor that will appeal to fans of Terry Pratchett and Christopher Moore.' - Library Journal Monsters are roaming the streets of London.
